The Department for Education and Skills has made Pensby High School for Boys a Specialist School. This award is to acknowledge our vision and plan to continue raising the standards of student achievement as it has done every year at the school since 2001.
Specialist status is awarded where a school's plan to raise standards is both achievable and more ambitious than might be expected of a similar non-specialist school. Being a Specilaist School provides Pensby Boys with substantial additional funding.
Our school has chosen Sport as its specialist subject because it enables us to impact very positively on our student's lives. All students, irrespective of circumstances or abilities, should be able to participate in and enjoy physical activity. We care very much about the all-round success of our boys and through raising standards of achievement in Physical Education and Sport for all, Pensby Boys will promote fitness, concentration, good self-discipline and personal management and motivation leading to lifelong enjoyment and health benefits. All students receive two hours of very good quality sport within the curriculum each week and there are many opportunities to extend an interest in a sport or activity both here at the school and at any one of our club links. As a Sports College we are able to recognise emerging talent and assist the progression to international competitive standards where appropriate.
Of course, it is not just about taking part. Sport needs good administrators, managers, referees, linguists, scientists, designers, physiotherapists, people with business acumen and much more. In short, as a Sports College, our students achieve across the entire subject range and the whole school continues to improve.
